There are several examples in Japan in which volcanos have effected settlement patterns. In Sakurajima, the city is settld in a peripheral formation around an active volcano to avoid destruction. Geothermal energy has made a volcano an ideal place to live near. The soil after eruptions is very fertile and rich, making it a perfect area for crops. It is also an attractive tourist destination. These reasons have cuased many cities to settle near volcanoes, even with the risks. The problem is, most of Japan is unaware that Mt,Fuji, while claimed to be dormant, still has the possibility of eruption.

If a volcano does erupt, it would be diasatrous. Alot of dense cities are situated near volcanos. If a volcano ( say, Mt.Fuji) were to erupt, ash would cover the sky and the ground. This would destroy Japan's crop supply and it would cover all of Tokyo, casuing a chocking darkness to settle on the city. The citizens would have to move away. Furthermore, the area would be unhabitable for years, due to the thick layer of ash hanging in the air. The settlement would have to move out.To prevent this, human settlements living near volcanoes should have evacuation plans and some sort of technology and scietists to detect earthquakes.

Tsunamis have a number of effects on the settlement. first off, the Tohoku tsunami that hit Japan in 2011 not only killed around 16000 people, but also demoilshed kilometeres of land and city, but also destroyed the vegetation. It also destoyed nucear power planrs, hich caused a radioactive meltdown, cuasing some seriuos damage to the enviroment there. Japan have made barriars, developed stronger buildings, and invested in technology to predict tsunamis and like earthquakes, they practice drills and make evacuation plans and shelters.

Earthquakes are just like Tsunamis. Both are caused by tectonic plate shifting. Japan regularly faces earthquakes due to te fact that is is located on the ring of fire. Most of the earthquakes are small tremors, barley felt by most people. But, japan still takes the safe route and reinforces the buildings to be stronger. They have also implanted things under the building to make a bulding "move" with the earthquake. Like Tsunamis, they practice earthquake drills and set up evacuation shelters.

In the future, If a tsunami would ever hit Japan again, I think Japaense settlements would be ready for it. Tsunamis have forced Japan to be wary, and to rethink wherer to place vital buildings such a nuclear power plants, hydroelectric plants, and other infrastructures. Japan might also increase the amount of regular tsunami drills to decrease the amount of panic when an tsunami hits. In fact, They just might create tiny little communities far away form coastal areas for people to ive in when Tsunamies hit.

There are a number of ways a major earthquake could affect human setlement. The destruction would take years to clean up. The economy would decline if the area hit by the earthquake was a major city. Basically, everythinh like the tsunami would happen.
